Sue Ware Honored with KASBO's 2020 Dale Dennis Distinguished Service Award Sue Ware, retired Great Bend USD 428 business official, was honored with our 2020 Dale Dennis Distinguished Service AWARD. For many years, Sue solicited and gathered donations of school supplies to be used as the center-piece decorations at meal functions during our KASBO Annual Convention and Expo. At the close of the conference, the supplies were always donated to a local school district. Thank you Sue for your years of dedication KASBO and to the school children of Kansas! |
Diane Ney Retires After 9 Years as KASBO Treasurer Diane Ney, Treasurer for Central Plains USD 112, has chosen to retire as the KASBO Treasurer after nine years of dedicated service. Many thanks to Diane for her service as treasurer and as a loyal KASBO Executive Board Member! |
Merle Hastert to Serve as the 2020-2021 KASBO President |
Merle Hastert, Treasurer/Risk Management Director for Olathe USD 233, was named as the 2020-2021 President of KASBO at our Virtual Conference on November 12. After graduating from high school in Garnett, Kansas, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Emporia State University. Before joining the Olathe School District in 2005, Merle gained experience by working for Household Finance Corporation, 4th National Bank, Bank IV, and Toyota Motor Credit Corporation. In his position with Olathe, he is responsible for directing the following programs: workers compensation, district risk management, and banking activities including balance and investments. Congratulations Merle and thank you for your willingness to serve KASBO! |

Jimmy Hay, Director of Finance and Board Clerk for Paola USD 368 and KASBO Immediate Past President, has been named as the 2020 recipient of ASBO's Pinnacle of Excellence Award, sponsored by Virco, Inc. This is one of the two top service awards presented annually by ASBO. The award honors Jimmy's foresight in founding the S.O.S. Serving Our Students program in 2017. The SOS program is a community event held annually to help equip students in Paola USD 368 with items necessary to help them have a successful start to the school year. Jimmy is also very active in other school and community organizations: Treasurer of the Paola USD 368 Endowment Association, Panther Friend Mentor, Vice Chair of the Miami County United Way, Lighthouse Church Treasurer, First Option Bank Baehr Foundation Trustee, Paola Rotary Club member, and Tri-Ko, Inc. Board of Directors. Jimmy graduated cum laude from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He and his wife Christi are the proud parents of four children, who all attend school in Paola USD 368. Congratulations Jimmy! |

Karen Schadel ASBO Scholarship Sarah Windmeyer Hiawatha USD 415 This scholarship, is presented in memory of Karen Schadel who served as KASBO's Executive Director for many years. Sarah, who is the Director of Finance, will receive $2,500 to attend the ASBO Annual Meeting and Exhibits in Nashville this fall. |
Piper Sandler KASBO Dependent Scholarship Dana Gosch Dana is the daughter of Rayne Gosch, who is the Board Clerk for Lakin USD 215. She will receive $1,000 to help with her higher education expenses. |
