The KASBO Academy has been created by the KASBO Board of Directors to offer training to Kansas school business officials that will lead to certification as a KASBO School Business Official.

We envision a program of training that covers basic information and competencies required of Kansas business officials.

This new academy is a required component of certification through Kansas ASBO. While your specific job description may not include risk management duties, risk management has been identified as a key job responsibility of most school business officials, and therefore is an established standard for our certification program.  Currently, the required classes are HR and Payroll, School District Purchasing and Ethics, School District Accounting and Budgeting, and Risk Managment.  We are currently developing two more required classes- Facilities Management and Ancillary Services. 

On Friday, September 13, we are offering Risk Managment at a cost of $150, which includes 6 hours of instruction and lunch. Please see the course information below:

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Anyone tasked with Risk Management responsibilities or being the designated School Risk Manager in their district plays a key role. Understanding the role of Risk Manager is important as it impacts many areas School Business Officials tend to oversee. Come learn about this role and the identification and evaluation of the risks inherent to schools. We will have discussions about common insurance policies to consider and sample forms. The Claims Process and some fictitious case studies will also be reviewed. This class is designed to offer something for all School Business Officials, regardless of your prior experience in Risk Management.
